Why Ian Fleming not authorize the producers of 007 films to film the books The Spy Who Love Me and Moonraker?
The films The Spy Who Love Me (1977) and Moonraker (1979) is not adaptations of the homonymous books, the scripts are original stories. Why the reason for this? I don’t understand!

I want answers!

Due to the reactions by critics and fans, Fleming was not happy with the book, The Spy Who Love Me and consequently only gave permission for the title to be used when he sold the film rights to Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli. In 1977 the title was used for the tenth film in the EON Productions series. It was the third to star Roger Moore as British Secret Service agent, Commander James Bond. Per Fleming’s wish the film only uses the title and is therefore considered the first wholly original Bond film. The film was novelised the same year by screenwriter Christopher Wood and the resulting book was the first novelisation of a Bond film. To avoid confusion with Fleming’s novel, the book was named James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me.

As with several previous Bond films, the story from Ian Fleming’s novel "Moonraker" is almost entirely dispensed with, here in favour of a film more in keeping with the era of science fiction. Indeed, at the end of the preceding The Spy Who Loved Me, For Your Eyes Only had been named as the title for the next film, but Moonraker was substituted instead

ive heard the only book that was trully done into a movie is the new Casino Royale.

this is despite the fact that nearly all Sean Conery movies were based on his books.

What happened to Q in 007 movies? He wasn't in Casino Royale neither is he in Quantum of Solace. ?
He used to be played by Desmond Llewelyn and he was in that role from From Russia with Love up until The World is Not Enough which was close to his death in December 1999. But since then John Cleese played the role in Die Another Day but they seem to have got rid of the most entertaining character of the whole series.

The makers of the two newest movies wanted to steer from the usual cheesy gadgets that 007 used, and take it in a different direction. This included getting rid of characters like Q and Moneypenny.

I was a huge James Bond fan until Daniel Craig was introduced as the new Bond.
French T | Oct 20, 2008

guess they hated Q as much as most people do.

Cleese is no Q

they could have picked a 1000 better people.

markwillstar | Oct 20, 2008

Have you noticed that Miss Moneypenny wasn’t in Casino Royale either. Casino Royale was the second film in without Q (Live and Let Die was the first). Apparently the producer Michael G. Wilson stated that the characters were not in the movie because they were not in the book.

He was not the first choice for director of these movies, thanks
