Is it okay to give my papillon two teaspoons of NyQuil for his cold?
No, it’s toxic to dogs! Go to the Vet for doggy cold medicine! How do you know it’s a cold?
Jenny | Feb 06, 2010
No.
Nyquil has acetaminophen (the same stuff that is in tylenol) and it is toxic to dogs or cats. If you think your dog needs nyquil it’s best to take them to a vet. If it’s a runny nose and sneezing it’s more than likely an upper respiratory infection and needs antibiotics. If it’s coughing theres a hundred different things it could be. Robitussin in small amounts has been used and some people think it’s ok but others don’t. So I would be very careful with anything that is intended for people. I know vets are expensive but it really is the best thing to do for your pet!

I don’t give my dogs any medicine that the vet didn’t tell me to give them.

No.
PARKERD | Feb 06, 2010
NO defiantly not, Are you crazy you could kill that dog giving her that much human medicine or even giving her human medicine.
Pamela | Feb 06, 2010
No way! NyQuil isn’t made for dogs! Take it to the vet, before it ends up poisoned!
Annie | Feb 06, 2010
No it is not a good one to do for a dog if you want to do stuff like that i would say go to the vet talk to them about it and then go from there..
SamanthaW | Feb 06, 2010
sure, if you want to kill the poor thing. Dogs are not human, and can’t handle most human meds..get your dog to the vet to see what the problem is..could be anything from an infection to parvo..

When my dog is sick, I pat him on the head and remind him he is a dog and he will get better.
Sebastjin Haff | Feb 06, 2010
NO! Why would you even think of doing that! Dogs aren’t humans, and your dog will get poisoned! Go see a vet ASAP! The vet should have a good medicine for your dog, or try ordering medicine for cheap with 1-800-Pet-Meds (call)
Mackenzie | Feb 06, 2010
no! no no no no no!
Laura | Feb 06, 2010
Absolutely not. First, Nyquil has ingredients that aren’t for dogs.
Second — and more important — dogs don’t get "colds
Dogs get kennel cough, dogs get flu, dogs get pneumonia.
For kennel cough (uncomplicated, no green gunky nose) this can be treated at home
Flu — depending on severity, may need IV fluid support
Pneumonia — NEED a vet
To be safe, see a vet and find out what you are dealing with.
Annie | Feb 06, 2010
NO not unless you want a very sick or dead dog. Don’t be giving human meds without a vet’s advice. Call the vet and have the dog properly treated.
